Do I need any prior dance experience to join a beginners class?

No prior experience is required for beginners classes. These are designed for complete novices, starting with the basics to help you build a strong foundation.

What should I wear to a dance class?

Comfortable, flexible clothing like leggings, a t-shirt, and soft shoes (like ballet slippers, jazz shoes) are ideal, some classes such as Contemporary Jazz will be in bare feet . You will be required to wear tap shoes for the tap classes although for the taster class trainers can be worn

Do I need to commit to the entire course?

Courses will be charged for the full 8 weeks (£69.50), please see terms and conditions. We do offer taster classes so that you can try it before you purchase. The taster class will be charged at £12.

Can I try a class before I commit to a course?

You can try a taster session for just £12. Each person can enjoy one taster session per class category, making it the perfect chance to try something new. You can book a taster here. Once you’ve booked, the team at Variety Box Academy will get in touch to confirm the next available slot for your chosen class, location, and time. We will aim to get you started right away!

Can I join if I have limited flexibility or fitness?

The courses cater to all levels of fitness and flexibility. The aim is to improve your ability gradually, so you can progress at your own pace.

How long does it take to move from beginner to improver level?

This depends on your commitment and progress. Please feel free to discuss your ability and improvement with your teacher as they are happy to guide you and advice you on your dancing journey

How big are the class sizes?

This depends on the studio size but typically classes range from 10-25 people. This ensures that each student receives enough attention from the instructor while also enjoying a group learning experience.

Can I still join if I’ve never danced before and feel nervous?

Yes, feeling nervous is completely normal! Beginners classes are specifically designed for people who are new to dance, and the supportive environment will help you gain confidence quickly.

Are dance courses a good way to stay fit and healthy?

Yes! Dance is a fun, full-body workout that improves cardiovascular fitness, strength, flexibility, coordination, and mental health. Plus, it’s a great way to meet new people and relieve stress.

What if I miss a class? Can I make it up?

Courses are booked upfront and non refundable once the course begins, however you have a right to cancel during a 14 day period before the start of the course. Please see our T&Cs for further information.

Can I join halfway through a course?

We recommend to start a course from the beginning so you can fully benefit from the classes from start to finish. We run regular courses so don’t worry if you miss one course as we can help you find and book the next one! However, if you’ve missed the start of a course, please contact us and if there is still space available on the course, we’ll do our best to accommodate you.

How physically demanding are the classes?

Classes vary in intensity depending on the style, but beginner and improver levels focus on technique and enjoyment, with manageable physical demands. You will gradually build stamina and strength over time.
